Eiffel, the emblematic Tower in Paris, cellebrated its 120th anniversary and the cellebrations still continue.
In last May the capital city of France started cellebrating Tour Eiffel’s 120th anniversary, paying tribute to the designers of the representative monument with a documentary exhibition, a forged iron structure designed by French engineer Gustave Eiffel and his collaborators. The Tower was built between 1887 and 1889 and on May 15th, 1889, the Eiffel Tower opened its door to the public, few days after the inauguration of the Universal Exposition of Paris in 1889. On that special occasion 10000 gas lanterns were spread out illuminating the whole structure that resisted adverse criticisms and turned out to be an indisputed icon. Today the 120th anniversary celebrations are focussed in the structure in itself: a light show lasting 12 minutes will project a shower of lights and shadows, a dynamic light sequence enhancing the outlines and beauty of the majestic structure. It will be presented four times each evening, at 8:00 pm and then again at 9:00 pm, 10:00 pm and 11:00 pm, till the end of 2009.
- Special ticket design for 120 years, the entrance tickets for Tower visits have joined in on the celebrations and have changed to the Tower’s anniversary colors
- On the first floor and stairs of the Eiffel Tower“Tales of the Eiffel Tower” films and interactive displays will let visitors discover the beginnings of the Tower, its highlights, replicas, souvenirs and what goes on behind the scenes. A big tent has been installed on the platform overlooking the Champ de Mars which houses a cinema theatre and its bar. In the Ferrié Pavilion, more than 300 reproductions of the Tower of all shapes and sizes are exhibited while the gallery room will be showcasing works of art which drew inspiration from the “Lady of Iron” during the last 120 years.
- Eiffel Tower Magazine. A 52-page magazine will be published for the occasion, to be sold in the Tower shops and at the Paris airports.
