Urban transport Barcelona

Barcelona has an integrated public transportation service, from correspondence, coordination of services and price integration point of view. There are many kinds of passes, valid for all public transportation network (underground, urban trains and buses), and an integrated price system was implemented, allowing to travel through varied means of transportation with the same ticket. The integrated card of transportation can be bought in any underground station, Tramway, Generalitat trains and Renfe Cercanías; in any inter urban bus station, at the ServiCaixa terminals, at the Lottery and Games offices, newsstands and other offices

Metro & Urban Trains Network

Barcelona has two transport systems: the Metro (underground), with 5 lines and the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) (Generalitat trains of Catalunya), which has 2 urban lines and 5 going to the outskirts of the city. The Metro is open from 5 am to midnight, and until 2 am on Fridays, Saturdays, holidays and eves of holidays. More information calling 010 or 906 42 70 17.

Urban buses

A great fleet covering ore than 80 lines allows you to get anywhere around the city and see Barcelona while you travel. Each route is indicated in the corresponding stop. An important tip: 70% of the buses are adapted for handicapped riders. Running from Mondays to Sundays, from 4.30 am to 11.30 pm. Bus passes can also be used in the metro and the Generalitat train urban lines.

Nitbús (night bus)

Running from Mondays to Sundays, from 11 pm to 4 am, every 30 – 45 minutes until 5 or 6 am, depending on the line. All night buses stop at the Plaza Catalunya.


Taxis in Barcelona are Bellow and black; when they are free they have a green Light on. Take into account that they do not carry more than 4 passengers. The meter shows the amount to be paid, but there are some authorized extras: airport surcharge, luggage surcharge…Check to know the cost of your trip beforehand, once extras to be applied have been explained. You can stop them by simply putting out your hand, while they cruise freely on the street, or at taxi stops, and you can also request one by telephone (1003).

Tourist transportation


Barcelona Bus Turistic: double-decker bus, travelling through the most interesting parts of the city. It has 42 stops, where you can get off or on as many times as you wish. You can travel the 3 routes (Red route, Blue route and Forum route), combined or individually. When purchasing your ticket, you will be given an informative guide of each one of the stops, and discount vouchers that you can use in the main places to visit.


Parque del Tibidabo (Tibidabo Park)- Tramvia Blau (Blue Tramway): the Blue Tramway is the richest and most natural access to the Tibidabo. It covers 1.276 metres, surrounded by a residential area and by the mountain, climbing uo to 93 metres high. It finishes its ride at the Tibidabo Funicular. Prices: one way ticket 2,70€; round trip ticket 4,10€. Tickets are bought at the Tramway.


Parque del Tibidabo –Funicular. Cable train connecting the Blue Tramway stop with the Tibidabo Amusement Park.


Parque del Tibidabo – Tibibús. Runs between the plaza de Catalunya –central Barcelona- and the Tibidabo Square, only when the Amusement Park is open.


Port of Barcelona - Ships. There are two kinds of rides, in catamarans ("Trimar" & "Òmnibus", running from Columbus to Bogatell beach) and in golondrinas (swallows) (from Colón to the Escollera (Pier)).


Parque de Montjuïc (Montjuic Park)- Funicular (TMB). Cable train connecting the urban centre with the metro station of Paral•le in 2 minutes and it is part of the integrated price of the transportation.


Parque de Montjuïc – Teleférico (Cable car) (TMB). From its panoramic cabins the most representative places of Barcelona can be seen. It has 3 stations: Parc Montjuïc, Mirador & Castell. Not integrated to the price system.


Parque de Montjuïc - Bus Montjuïc Turístic. Open air bus, travelling through interesting places of the mountain. There are 3 routes, the blue (to and from the plaza de Espanya) and the red (to and from the Portal de la Pau), with 5 connecting stops between them. Bus Montjuïc Turístic Information: 934 414 982
