Bicentennial celebrations in Buenos Aires
On May 25th the festivities celebrating the Bicentennial will be centralized in the Tedéum -in the Basílica of Luján- and a parade from the Cabildo to the Obelisco, and then along Avda. 9 de Julio. Presidents José Mujica, from Uruguay; Sebastián Piñera, from Chile; Hugo Chávez, from Venezuela; Rafael Correa, from Ecuador; and probably Inácio Lula da Silva, from Brazil, will be present in Buenos Aires for the celebrations.
Bicentennial Avenue
The celebration will take place in the Paseo del Bicentenario (Bicentennial Avenue); on Avda. 9 de Julio, between Corrientes and Belgrano, and the festivities will be continued on 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th May. The whole road will symbolize a route along Argentina from North to South. It will be an open air federal environment where the 200 years old Revolución de Mayo (May Revolution) will be commemorated together with all the provinces and the invited countries. Among the celebrations, on May 23rd the foreign countries will offer artistic exhibitions and they will take part in the Integration Parade.
Provinces Fair
On May 22nd people will be able to enjoy the Provinces Fair where craftworks, gastronomy and typical cultural elements will be presented. Typical gastronomic products will be sold by each province, like tinned food, sausages, jams, the best caramel spread of the world (dulce de leche), typical dishes, liquors, etc. There will also be a special stand for the 25th Province, consisting of the more than one million Argentine people living abroad and for the Province of the Future, a space encouraging the active participation and reflection of children, by means of recreational proposals concerning the values of the women and men who built up history.
Parade
On May 22nd the Militar and the Federal Parades will be held, on May 23rd the Integration Parade and finally the May 25th Parade, with a proposal combining tradition and innovation and the participation of artistic buses, groups of art, musicians, set designers and art designers. Re-opening of the Colón Theatre
One of the most eagerly awaited activities is the re-opening of the Colón Theatre, located at 618 Cerrito, Buenos Aires, Argentina and closed for three years for renovations and improvements. The Colón Theatre has always been a theatre venerated by audiences and the greatest artists. The re-opening is expected to take place on May 24th; while the first performance will be held on May 26th at 20:30. "La Bohème", the most performed opera during the 20th century and the one top of the rankings of the Colón's audience throughout different periods, now opens the 2010 season with all its magic, humour, nostalgia and deep sensibility of Puccini.
Bicentennial Concert
Another proposal is to enjoy of the National Symphony Orchestra that will be performing the Bicentennial Concert at the Monumento Nacional a la Bandera (National Monument to the Flag) on Saturday, May 22nd at 20:00. A second performance will be held at Plaza de Mayo square on May 25th at 20:00. Concerts are free and well-known people will be present.
