This festival is always celebrated the day falls, even if it falls on a weekend. Museums, tourist shops and restaurants are open. From 1 to May 31, the recess region of Lake Balaton, the Hungarian favorite water sports, fishing and swimming on its banks during good weather, develop a long program of events and parties in Keszthely, a population of 22,000 in the western part known for its imposing Castle of the eighteenth century. After opening this month of celebration with the launch of a wreath into the water the first of May, the fortress housed facilities throughout the month most of the Balaton Festival program, including classical music concerts, art exhibitions, street theater and music, and chamber music evenings at the Town Hall, popular outdoor and sporting events.

The city of Szeged in the south of the country, organizes since 1930 the largest theater festival outside of Hungary. This takes place between the second half of May and the second half of August, with the preferred scenario Dóm Square.
