Booking accommodation near the Great Canal is the best plan for your visit to Venice; it's the city's most famous "street" and its principal link which runs from one side of the city to the other.

From the wharfs which you'll find as you leave your accommodation in the area near the Grand Canal you'll be able to take a vaporetti, Venice's public transport system, which leave every 5-10 minutes during the day and every 40 minutes at night. Lines such as the numbers 1 and 82 do tourist tours and from your accommodation near the Grand Canal you will be close to all of Venice's most interesting attractions.

Another more romantic and characteristic option is that you leave your accommodation near the Grand Canal, bargain with a Gondolero and take a tour in Gondola, the traditional oar-driven boat. The tours are usually 25 or 50 minutes long and are an ideal way to reach some of the more inaccessible places and to marvel at the beautiful facades of the Gothic, Neoclassic or Baroque Palaces which line the banks: Ca´Pesaro, Ca´d´Oro, Fondaco dei Tedeschi, Ca´Focari, Ca´Rezzonico and Palazzo Grassi.
